Recording The Octopus
One of my favourite bands is Amplifier from the UK. Their music is hard to describe, it’s unique, heavy, dizzying. It’s music that I can listen to over and over again and it’s always like listening to it for the very first time. Simply incredible how only 3 people can unleash such an epic thunderstorm of sound.
If you ever get the chance to see them live – I went to one of their concerts in Germany a few years ago – you will be blown away by the 30+ effect pedals that Sel on the guitar uses, and suddenly it makes sense. I love their sound. I love bands who dedicate so much time into finding the perfect sound. Even better is that there is nothing fake on their music, it’s all handcrafted and real.
So far they only released two albums and an EP but they are working on their third record The Octopus. The teaser makes me shiver, their sound is just gorgeous. A few weeks ago they uploaded a series of videos from the studio to MySpace. If you’re in a band or interested in music production you should check this out, fascinating how much they care for details. And it’s recorded on Apple equipment.
I’m really looking forward to The Octopus, they say it will be a double album. But no release date so far…
