REDMAP
Last week was a very busy week for us at Ionata. We had to finalise several high-profile projects for launch – one of them was REDMAP, a project we had been working on for months. I spent a lot of time working on the frontend and did most of the graphical work, CSS and menus including font replacement. The design was provided by Holly Webber.
REDMAP is a university project that aims at tracking unusual fish species in Tasmanian waters, to research their movements in regards to climate change. If a certain species suddenly appears in Tasmania that was previously common only in other areas around Australia, it would certainly be interesting to know.
The website is a real online community, whether you had an unusual fish sighting or you just want to be part of the community, simply create an account, log your sightings, upload a photo and research sightings made by other users.
REDMAP was launched to the public with a big event last week at Mures Lower Deck in Hobart, with David Llewellyn, Minister for Primary Industries and Water. It received a lot of media coverage – it was featured on WIN television, and several websites issued press releases, including the University of Tasmania, the Tasmanian government and ABC News. If you look closely, you can even find a photo of me in one of the press releases.
