Wireless Tasmania

Last week we launched Wireless Tasmania, another exciting project. The Wireless Tasmania project is about bringing wireless connectivity to tourism hotspots in Tasmania – at the moment it is limited to the Hobart Waterfront around Salamanca. It is planned to be extended in the future and act as a project to showcase the new national broadband network in Australia, with possible 4G technology and more hotspots around the island.

For the launch last week we created a website that people will be redirected to when they log into the wireless hotspot. There they can find information and map data for Salamanca as well as information about how to get internet access. Basic limited access is free and signing up only takes seconds.

The website frontend was created by me, with another great design from John @ Hobart Design. The website also features a version for mobile phones, it works well on iPhones but also on other mobile devices. It was especially interesting for me to create the mobile site and I can imagine doing more work in the area of mobile sites, especially for the iPhone.
